The last issue? Hmmmm. That’s a good question.
But think about it. Magazines are drying up left and right and Paste Magazine still stands. End times? Fuck, we think so!

Yes! Finally! The yang to the yin of issue 18! Another lovely specimen including interviews with Stella, Eugene Mirman and The Naked Trucker and features that span the gamut. Whirlyball against Mogwai? We’ve got it! The Seven Degrees of Winona Ryder? Check! A lovely article about Tim Kerr and his even lovelier house? Bingo.
The first part of a two issue mega-issue. Gee, you would think that we would’ve thought it out better and just put out the “Overrated Book” instead of clogging the magazine racks for a year!
Filled with love. Filled with hate. Extensive (perhaps exhaustive is a better word) feature with Mission of Burma, lengthy Mr Show tour diary piece and interviews with Robert Smigel (Triumph the Insult Comic Dog), Dave Attell (Insomniac), Patton Oswalt (King of Queens), Fred Armisen (SNL) and Neal Pollack (McSweeney’s). The usual array of idiocy is also included at no extra charge. Don’t you just itch for the chance to read it?
Ah yes, we remember that year. Chunklet could take on all foes! And this was the result. A 160+ page tome dedicated to the worst bands we’d ever seen perform live. Ah, the Merzbox foldout review. And who could forget the Don Caballero tour diary? Probably one of the best pieces of rock journalism ever committed to paper and we’re not saying that because it was in Chunklet. It just is.
The sad news is that all the files for this issue were taken in the burglary of 2002, so we only have a few dribs and drabs to share. Maybe one day we’ll have time to type everything in.
Man, some people REALLY can’t take a joke and this issue was the first to prove that point conclusively. Some of our best interviews…. A smart, thought-out discussion with our buddy Will Hart from the Olivia Tremor Control. An interview I had always wanted to read with John Reis (Rocket From The Crypt/Drive Like Jehu/Hot Snakes) so I just went and did it myself. David Cross sat and talked with us way before every magazine blew coke up his butthole. But then again, the big cornerstone of the issue is an exhaustive listing of the biggest assholes in rock. Do we regret it? Of course not.

Our first professionally printed issue. Again, this seems like an eternity ago. Came with a snazzy Don Caballero 7″ which we still see on eBay for big dollars. We’ll eventually get content up for this, but for now, you get the Don Cab tracks in mp3 form!
Another awesome cover by cartoonist Ted Rall and an issue we still look upon fondly. And hell, it’s when we’d actually do interviews with people! What’s not to like?
The Piels Brothers artwork on the cover was printed on actual grocery bags which we cut down individually at Kinko’s one night. It was nightmarish. A few good interviews. God, this is old.
God, this issue was so long ago that just thinking about it is foggy. The big thing with this issue is that it had pages which we’d never had before.
This was one of those issues where I just learned how to use a computer to do design and way too much writing (most poorly) in a short amount of time. The Tar/MOAM? interview is still funny to me though….
