Chunklet comes out with little regard to a set schedule only because the contributors are busy with their other activities such as being in bands, work, family, putting out records, habitual laziness, television, our lord and savior Jesus Christ and internet porn.

Top 10 For 2008
POSTED WEDNESDAY 12.10.08

So Mojo got in touch with me in September asking for my top ten for the year which was a bit surprising seeing as how the rest of the year hadn't even happened. Regardless, I sent a list in and there's a few things I'd like to explain. First, Georgia kicked all kinds of ass this year as witness to the fact that half of this list came from here. Second, there's a lot of nepotism going on in the list too. And you know what? I don't give a shit. And third? I'm home until the new year so I'm going to hunker down and listen to a mountain of records that I've bought and not fully digested yet.

Sex/Vid Communal Living (Dom)
Harvey Milk Life...The Best Game In Town (Hydrahead)
Gentleman Jesse & His Men Self Titled (Douchemaster)
Intelligence Deuteronomy (In The Red)
Liz Durrett Outside Our Gates (Warm)
Vic Chesnutt & Elf Power Dark Developments (Orange Twin)
Deerhunter Microcastles/Weird Era Cont. (Kranky)
Monotonix Body Language (Drag City)
Torche Meanderthal (Hydrahead)
Awake My Soul  The Original Soundtrack/Help Me To Sing: Songs of the Sacred Harp (Awake)

Honorable mentions: Nodzz, Crystal Stilts, No Age, Blank Dogs, It's Casual and Human Eye.

Top 3 Reissues:
Vivian Girls Vivian Girls (In The Red) (originally by Mauled by Tigers)
Big Dipper Supercluster: The Big Dipper Anthology (Merge)
Sic Alps A Long Way Around To A Shortcut (ADR)

Also, I should add that anything on Siltbreeze, In The Red or Numero Group from 2008 was "the jam."

I'm sure I'll come up with a couple more top tens between now and the end of the year. But in the meantime? Here's a photo of Brian Posehn with a shicklegruber.

All in good fun....End of COC tour that ended at Martha's Vineyard.

Comments:
I'm calling bullshit on Torche.
Heard Greg Kot last night on PRI's 'Sound Opinions' jocking this band as a cross between the "Flordia metal-sound"(does he mean, like, Obituary??) only with pop-melodies and the "ferociousness of Motorhead" (his words.)
Umm..No.
Sounding like late-period Jawbox with a few wheedlie-wheedlie guitar parts thrown in does not equal the best metal album of 2008, Sorry.
I don't even really like bike courier /beardo metal, but if pressed, I'd place the Sword in much higher regard than Torche

When I first saw GBV in 1994 and that band Strapping Fieldhands opened I bought their LP they had for sale. I would have never imagined I'd still be hearing about Siltbreeze 14 years later.

I hate you, Kallen.

I doubt you give a shit but that Intelligence record came out last year.

Brian of Walsby! I have certainly not forgotten the massive Double Negative (-/-) single from earlier this year. These are just the full length/12" entries. Singles will be listed later, and yes, it'll be there.

And yeah, Pete's got quite a knack for counting British pounds. He's a good colleague to have by your (American) side! WOT?!

hey henry..even though you didnt put our horrible sounding cool packaged seven inch in your top ten or whatever, you are still cool..thanks for the help in England and also thanks for introducing us to your cool English freind..he sure was good at counting money! It was a honor.

It's a solid list, sure, what with GJ and Torche and Deerhunter probably sneaking into my own 10 by year's end, but Crystal Stilts, really? Such a boring record...

My Best Album of the Year:

Blood on the Wall - Liferz (I could be wrong)

Best Reissue of the Year:

Pavement - Brighten the Corners (2-disc; I think it's coming out next week)

Useless Reissue of the Year:

Billy Joel - The Stranger (I've hung out with enough friends' moms to have a gross taste in my mouth forever and ever to debate the good of this one)

Surprisingly Good Album of the Year:

Metallica - Death Magnetic (also could be wrong)

Worst Album of the Year:

Guns N' Roses - Chinese Democracy (This is what wasting 14 years of your ego-ballooned life sounds like...it's also really gay too)

Gentleman Jesse's record is the shit. And Numero Group's Titan Records comp is gold, Jerry, gold!!!

PS...Henry...David T. Lindsay thinks you're a douche.

I'm surprised he had time to write that review of the Rock Bible, considering he's probably loading his guns and preparing for the end of days, now that Obama's a month away from holding office.

Mighty fine list. I hoenstly forgot about Torche being out this year, feels like a 2007 release.
